spring shower
Over the weekend I finished  my latest piece called Spring shower. It’s a mixed media piece (done with acrylics and black rollers) 12×18 inches in size done on thick watercolor paper.

Here is a little glimpse into how it looked like while working on it:

And here is a look at the details of the finished piece:

Spring shower is the third in the series of drawings/mixed media pieces I’ve started this year:
series

You can see previous two pices in more detail here (Red alert) and here (Rose patch).

And just like those two pieces Spring shower is available in my Society 6 shop (which, btw offers free shipping on most items until March 17).

flower doodle

Apparently, it’s that time of the year when I feel like doodling flowers and abstracted flowery shapes in anticipation of springtime and lovely weather. This time last year I doodled a whole booklet full of them !

big red flower drawing
This red&black drawing, being 30.5 x45.5 cm in size (12″x18″) couldn’t be scanned on my scanner so it definitely deserves : a) a professional scan or b) a better photo of it because, trust me, it looks much, much better and more vibrant in person than on this picture. It’s on my to-do list, to at least take a decent photo of it under natural light so I can post it under drawings section on this site as well as on flickr. So, consider this just an official preview. Also, I still need to name it, I’m thinking red alert, maybe. We’ll see.

Here’s a detail of it, as well:

our secret language

Well, hello there! It’s certainly been a while since I last posted something on this old blog of mine (or at least it feels like that). The truth is I’ve been very, very busy in the best possible way. I’ve been working on some projects I can not yet reveal so this site will stay silent a little bit longer.

But, if you have time, take a peek at lovely Drenka’s Crochet blog and try and guess who designed her new blog banner (wink, wink).

As usual I’m sending you all lots of love and to all my dear Croatian readers: I hope you are all someplace warm, safe and comfortable (p.s.: snijeg i zima su super, al’ ja se nadam da će se proljeće ipak požuriti :))

psychedelic blanket

Let me introduce you to my latest drawing that  I called psychedelic blanket for obvious reasons (pattern! colors! horror vacui!). Alternate title could might as well be under Arlen’s influence because  I was while  drawing it totally inspired by our latest collaboration The Royal Sampler.

Here are few snaps of work-in-progress. (If anyone’s interested, it took me 8 hours  total to finish it, the drawing is done on A4 size  bristol paper).

And, of course it can also be found on my Society 6 site, as print as well as other products:

royal sampler

This piece is another collaboration with Arlen Dean, (Alkaline Samurai on flickr). It’s called The  Royal Sampler because we used over 300 different pens to make it. The size of the drawing is 30,5 x 45,5 cm (12×18 inches), it’s done on 280 g/m (125 lbs)cotton  watercolor paper.
Some of the pens we used are: Sakura color, (gelly rolls) Kuretake co. (ZIG), Deco Color paint pens, uni ball vision, pilot g-tec gells , pilot v precise, tombo, pitt, prisma pens ect ect .. basically every brand you can think of is represented here in multiple forms….

This piece can also be found  in my Society 6 shop.

While Arlen and I have been busy with our new collaboration, a big drawing filled with colorful abstracted flowers (you can see a little wip preview above) I added our old collaboration, a piece called Gummyfication to my Society6 shop.

gummyfication

Gummyfication is not available not only as a print, stretched canvas and stationery card but also as laptop skin and iPhone case and if I might say so , it looks rad :)

I had a lot of fun “turning” our collaborative piece into different product so I plan adding more art to my shop soon!

housey photo doodles

I’ve been amusing myself by doodling on prints of analog photos with white acrylic paint. And then arranging  said photos on a piece of paper and doodling around them and taking pics of it. What to say, strange things amuse me : )

Writing random stuff on photos also turned out to be fun.

Also, I’ve been (hand)writing those thank you cards (photo paper size 10x15cm). I was a simple, effortless activity I enjoyed while listening/sort of also watching my favorite YouTube channels.

Hello card. Done with watercolors in ink. Another little effortless drawing.

artsy scrapbook
I made another artsy scrapbook! With the first one I made, my main goal was to practice storytelling through photos. With this one I had only one thing in mind: to get messy! To be more specific, I wanted to take a break from accuracy and create something very fast without too much thinking. I had no idea what I wanted the final result to look like, turning the process of making this booklet into an exercise of listening to my intuition and feeling the work more instead of thinking about it and planning.

I called this scrapbook 10 drawings (a bit by mistake since  pages are mixed media collages, oooooops, but who really cares?) You can see pages below (on left I scribbled a title of images that are on the right) or scroll down to see the process of making the book.

Here’s the process of making the booklet:

tools for making a scrapbook

First, I prepared tools I intended on using: paper cutter, thread, brushes, pens, glue, paint, paper and two pieces of card board I already cut into 15×15 cm size and decided to use them as book cover and back. I also peeled off the outer layer of cardboard to reveal texture beneath it which I quite liked.

After that I cut 10 pieces of paper and continued working on cover and back that were originally a part of an ugly box. So I torn out few pages out of an old textbook and glued them onto cardboard. After that they got repainted.

textures

I randomly smeared some acrylic paint on pieces of paper I would use as book pages to get nice textures as drawing backgrounds. Then I added some cut out textbook pages.

scrapbook collage
After all drawings were finished I bound the book using the needle and thread. It was most challenging part of making this scrapbook mostly because I have no idea how to bind books, heheh. I have been watching a lot of videos on how to do that and reading tutorials but I’m more interested in creating content for books then learning technicalities of binding them so learning that skill will have to wait.

************************************************************************************************************************

I’m already planning my next scrapbook , it will be a mix of photos and drawings. What is your next art/craft  project?
