hello
Hello! Hello! How has your week been? For the past seven days I’ve been very busy, which turned out to be really awesome for several reasons. One of the reasons is, I’ve been so busy I didn’t even have time to complain about bad weather we’ve been having all week long (rain-snow-rain). But I’m sure craving some sunshine soon!

caffeine cat

Do you know what else I’ve been craving lately? Coffee! I haven’t had much sleep last week and with so many things to do I’ve been literally drinking liters of coffee to keep myself awake and productive (and it also made me look like that caffeine addicted cat above :))

hungry marten

I’ve been also craving some delicious meal  (not a burger like this grumpy marten) since I didn’t have time to cook anything decent past week. Actually, this doodle of a marten was inspired by a recent visit to a local exchange office and  some “decor” I noticed in there. First, here’s little explanation for non-Croatian readers: Croatian monetary currency (kuna) is named after an animal (kuna means marten). So, when I walked into a local exchange office I noticed an interesting piece of taxidermy, a dead stuffed marten, looking very threatening, holding a 2 kuna coin in it’s open jaws. (A kuna (marten) holding a kuna (marten) coin in it’s jaws-what a brilliant decoration for an exchange office! Wow!)

Anyway, that was my inspiration for this doodle, that and a fact I was hungry when I sketched it :) And come to think of it I’m still feeling a bit hungry so I’m off to prepare something warm and delicious and then rest and enjoy what is left  of this Sunday afternoon. I hope you have  a good one too!

housey photo doodles

I’ve been amusing myself by doodling on prints of analog photos with white acrylic paint. And then arranging  said photos on a piece of paper and doodling around them and taking pics of it. What to say, strange things amuse me : )

Writing random stuff on photos also turned out to be fun.

Also, I’ve been (hand)writing those thank you cards (photo paper size 10x15cm). I was a simple, effortless activity I enjoyed while listening/sort of also watching my favorite YouTube channels.

girl with lots of hair

As I thought of writing this post I said to myself there must be another way to start it than saying I’ve been very busy. It doesn’t sound original or fun  but it’s true! I’ve been very busy working on various projects, some of which I’m not yet allowed to share and a personal art project that still makes sense only in my head and will have to wait awhile until it reveals itself to the world.

However, I did manage to steal a little time to work on simple creative ideas. I’ve been doodling on glossy 200gms photo paper, using colorful, sparkly rollers and expressing my caffeine addiction love for coffee.

I got some cheap coffee mugs at a local store and I’d love to draw something on them as soon as I buy paint for ceramics.  Now I’m just using  them as props.

For some reason I can’t remember right now I thought it would be fun to make a watermelon necklace. I really love watermelons  and pink/red/green color combo so why not? But, to be honest my every attempt to  make jewelry only reaffirms my decision  to stick to illustration because I kinda suck at  crafting  and lack patience to work on tiny details. I made this by cutting a round cork coaster in half, painting a watermelon on it, then making two tiny holes and putting soft wire through them. I’m using it a as decoration/some sort of mobile right now and will look for actual  watermelon themed jewelry on etsy one day :)

I had more fun painting bears on cork coasters than making a watermelon “necklace”:

As January is coming to an ending I’m still keeping my motto for 2012. in mind and keeping myself motivated , creative and , yes ,very busy. I can’t wait until I can share results of more exciting projects with you!

baking is sexy

Over the weekend I finished these two doodles of food, food doodles, foodles? Anyway, I made them just for fun.
According to this cupcake, baking is very sexy. And this toast is very smart. He’s into important intellectual matters, philosophy and knowing every flag of the world. He’s kinda cute as well, don’t you think?

Here are three doodles I made late at night when I couldn’t fall asleep. You might be already familiar with them if you follow me on tumblr ;-)

Sometimes when I don’t have time to seriously draw I doodle simple (usually abstract) shapes, scan and color them and save in one of my “work in progress” folders. Usually I find those simple drawings useful as additional layers when composing my illustrations.

( If you’re interested about the way I make my illustrations you can read about it here.)
So here are few of those simple doodles I made lately which may or may not end up as part of actual illustrations : )

Video of my mini Moleskine notebook filled with drawings.
I had a lot of fun filling my mini Moleskine notebook with drawings and doodles, I did it in breaks between some more “serious” drawing, painting and running errands. All of the drawings are done from imagination without any pre-sketches or strict ideas of what I’m going to draw. I used a lot of metallic colors, mainly silver and gold and enjoyed combining bight blues, greens and pinks. The colorful the better :)
